Stanley Kubrick’s Description Of The Shining Movie

Jack Torrance, the “Coolest” Dad Around

The Shining was set in Denver, Colorado during the 1980s. Jack Torrance, a writer, former teacher, Wendy Torrance and Danny Torrance are the main characters. Jack accepts to take over the Overlook Hotel’s winter caretaker position, so that he could continue writing. Jack learns that a man committed suicide at the hotel, killing his entire family as well as himself. Jack claims it would not be a problem, and his wife would not mind. However, he never tells his wife. Danny suffers a minor injury while brushing his teeth and talking to Tony, an imaginary friend. Wendy tells Wendy that Jack accidentally injured Danny’s arm during a drunken episode. She also says that Jack used to drink but has not been drinking since that incident. The Torrances finally make it to the overlook hotel. Danny then goes to the gaming room. Jack and Wendy get toured around the huge hotel. Danny is having another mishap while playing darts and sees twin girls. Danny runs to the gold room, where he finds his parents. Danny and Wendy then get a tour of Mr. Hallorann’s kitchen. Mr. Hallorann calls Danny telepathically to his mind and asks him if Danny wants ice-cream. The Rising Action begins when Danny learns of his talent, “The Shining”. This talent allowed Danny to communicate telepathically and also saw the memories of Overlook Hotel. Mr. Hallorann warns the guest that there are evil things within the hotel. Danny inquires about the dangers and asks specifically about room 237. Hallorann advises Danny to avoid that area as it is very dangerous.

Jack starts to feel frustrated about his writing a month later. Wendy attempts to have a conversation with Jack, but Jack becomes angry and tells Wendy to go. He said that she was interfering with his work. Danny is still exploring the hotel by his big wheels and comes across the twin girls again. But this time he encounters the “deathscene” of the twins and blood throughout the hallway. Danny then enters room 237, as the door had been opened. Jack wakes screaming as he types. Wendy runs to Jack. Jack tells Wendy that he had a nightmare during which he killed Wendy’s and Danny’s bodies and cut them up. Jack confides to Wendy that Jack is having a hard time thinking. Danny enters the room and marks his neck. Wendy suspects Jack was responsible and accuses him with child abuse. Jack continues his mental breakdown and talks to himself. He ends up at the bar’s gold room, where he finally meets Lloyd, who is a ghost bartender. Jack requests alcohol and dreams about how he drinks it. Jack vents about Wendy to his bartender, and about his marriage. Wendy meets Jack at the bartender and tells him about a woman who strangles Danny. Jack enters room 236 by himself and encounters the same woman. She turns out to have been an elderly lady. Jack lies to Wendy, claiming he did not see anyone in the room. Wendy wants Danny to be rescued, and Jack retorts. Jack returns to the room with the ball in it. Jack encounters Mr. Grady, who was responsible for the deaths of his family members and himself in that hotel. Grady tells Jack to murder his family. Grady also informs Jack that Danny was acting naughty and getting help with “Shining”. Danny ignores Wendy’s message and refers only to himself as Tony. Danny shines to seek out Hallorann’s help. Hallorann senses that something is wrong and decides to fly back to Colorado to check. Wendy searches for Jack and finds a stack containing the exact same papers on her typewriter. Jack bursts in the door, trying to hurt Wendy. Wendy manages to hit Jack on the head with her fist, and he falls down stairs. Wendy takes Jack to the storage area and locks him there. Wendy learns from Jack that Jack has rigged his snow-mobile and twoway radio. Grady then talks to Jack, and Grady informs him that Jack isn’t doing well. Grady unlocks Jacks door and let him out. Danny leaves redrums on Wendy’s door and wakes her up with a yelling “redrum” Wendy realizes the message written on the mirror is “murder” when she sees it.

Jack will shave the door, and Wendy and Danny race to the restroom. Wendy pushes Danny to escape, but she cannot fit herself in the window. This is the most obvious conflict. Jack wants to harm Wendy or Danny. Jack bursts through the bathroom door, shouting “Here is Johnny!” but then he disappears after Wendy stabs his hand. Outside, he hears a snowmobile. This is Jack’s Climax. He actually tries to kill the family members in this scene. Hallorann arrives at Jack’s hotel to check on his family. Jack discovers Hallorann and hits him in the back with an iron axe. Jack tells Danny to hide in the cabinet and he chases Danny away. Jack follows Danny through the Hedge maze. Wendy, on the other hand, finds Hallorann’s body and starts seeing ghosts. Danny loses Jack while Wendy watches blood pour out of the elevator doors. Wendy chases Johnny to the outside. The Falling Action/Conclusion is now complete. Jack and Wendy have resolved their conflict. Both get into Hallorann’s snowmobile and flee from Jack. Jack is left to freeze in the snow and dies. The movie ends zooming into an old 1921 photograph of Jack with a crowd. The Denouement was meant to show Jack’s death from freezing to death. Danny, Wendy and their escape were safe.

My opinion is that every actor and actress in The Shining did an outstanding job. Jack Nicholson was a master at displaying to the audience the man who is completely insane. I remember his scene where he cuts down Wendy’s door and shouts “Here is Johnny!” Jack Nicholson is always the first thing that comes to mind when I think about a psychopath. Shelly duvall was also great as Wendy. Her reaction to Jack’s attempt to knock the bathroom door down was the best example of this. Shelly Duvall’s amazing acting really makes Wendy feel anxious and afraid. Danny Lloyd, Danny Torrance’s actor, was my favorite moment. I loved how he would use Tony as his voice. Particularly, I liked the way he said “redrum” during the scene when he was drawing it on the door.

The movie had a unique plot. The idea that a father would kill his family is frightening. Jack Torrance is a normal Dad trying to keep his writing career on track. When he cannot write, he loses his mind. Jack, who goes from being a normal father to becoming a complete psycho, is an interesting character and a totally different person at the conclusion. The movie’s steadycam gave an entirely new perspective on the action. The scene in which Danny is riding around the hotel on his big bike and Jack chases Danny through the maze is an example of this. I also believe that the movie’s music helped to set the mood. The music would make certain scenes more terrifying and dramatic. Without music, the movie wouldn’t be as good. For instance, when Danny writes Redrum to Wendy, but Wendy realizes it is Murder it sounds even scarier. The music adds drama and suspense to the scene.

We can see that alcohol and drinking habits can have a lasting impact on our lives. This is demonstrated through Jack’s character throughout all of the movie. Jack’s drinking issues are revealed at the beginning. This even causes Danny to hurt. He could have been drinking and went insane at the Outlook hotel, trying to kill his family. Jack’s insane behavior could be an example to others about how to stop drinking.

The Shining is a great horror movie. The plot is unique and the characters are interesting. The movie also maintains a dark, creepy atmosphere throughout. This movie is not recommended for young children because it contains blood, violence, and even naked women. This is why the movie is rated R. There are many scenes where people get killed, such as when Jack murders Hallorann. The Shining was a great horror movie. I found it to be a very enjoyable experience. It was also interesting to watch Jack transform from a normal dad into a psychopath who eventually dies “The Coolest Dad.”
